The day I finally realized how much I wanted to quit, I was having a cigarette. I was in the middle of running a marathon, and my body wanted to get the nicotine hit.

I started to think about the number of times I’d smoked in my life. It was a lot. But I could see that it was only one cigarette. I didn’t think about it as much as I thought about how much I wanted to quit.
The next day, I had a light lunch and took a long, deep breath. I tried to get out of my head and concentrate on my breathing.
I noticed my heart rate was dropping. My feet were feeling warmer, and the muscles in my legs were beginning to relax.
I started to look at the number of cigarettes that I had smoked. It was only one. I didn’t feel like I had smoked a cigarette I knew I had.
I knew there was no way I could have smoked that many cigarettes in the past few years.
I took another deep breath and felt my lungs fill up with air. I was finally done!
Smoking is a habit, and I’ve got to be the first to admit that I’ve had a few slip-ups. I’ve had some good days and bad days. But just like quitting any other habit, I’ve learned to break the bad habits and replace them with new ones.
I now have a great support system to help me quit. I’ve made some great friends who support the process and help me stay accountable to my goals.
I’m not saying that everyone will have the same success. There are many factors that affect your success. But I do know that there are a lot of people who are able to quit for good.
